How to Wipe a Chromebit (Factory Reset)

Most issues with a Chromebit can be resolved by performing a developer wipe. The following article provides instructions on how to perform these steps:


Parts Required

Before starting, gather the following parts:

1. USB Keyboard

2. Paperclip



Step 1

Turn off the Chromebit by removing the power cable.




Step 2

Connect a USB Keyboard to the front of the Chromebit:




Step 3

Locate the recovery button on the back of the Chromebit, and insert the paperclip into the indicated hole. While the paperclip is inserted into the hole, reconnect the power cord to the Chromebit.




Step 4

As the screen boots up, a yellow exclamation point will appear. Press Ctrl + D on the keyboard




Step 5

When the below screen appears, press the recovery button with the paperclip again:



Step 6

When the below screen appears, press the spacebar on the keyboard, then press Enter to confirm

Step 7

Once Enter is pressed, the below screen will appear, and the Chromebox will reboot




Step 8

Once powered on, the Chromebox will display the first setup screen. Press the Tab key on the keyboard to navigate to the "Select a Network" section. After configuring your WiFi connection, tap on "Continue":




Step 9

Please read the Google OS Terms carefully, and then hit “Accept and Continue”




Step 10

On the login screen appears (see below), press Ctrl + Alt + E on the keyboard to switch to the “Enterprise Enrollment” screen





Step 7

Once on the Enterprise Enrollment Screen, enter the login credentials for the Wondersign Service being used:



Step 8

After successful enrollment, the below screen will appear. Press Enter to proceed




Step 9

The Chromebit will automatically install and launch the Wondersign application



Please Note: Depending on which Wondersign service you logged into in step 11, the screen above will be slightly different, but will still feature a plan white background, and a status of the application's launch.



Step 14

Once the application is launched, the device will download any updated, and return to normal operation. In some situations, a pairing code may appear. If this happens, follow the instructions below.

Write down the pairing code and log in using your Wondersign account at https://my.wondersign.com. Go to the Devices section, click on Activate New Player and enter the pairing code to activate the player. Once the device is paired, it will play a demo Wondersign video until content is assigned to the playlist.
